Course Description

This course will guide students through an exploration of Taipei’s diverse cultural heritage, highlighting Chinese religion, war memories, and the city’s rich migration history. By immersing themselves in Taipei’s religious sites and a variety of museums, students will gain a profound understanding of the city’s layered past and the enduring customs that define this cosmopolitan hub. Through an examination of Taipei’s urban growth, religious pluralism, and wartime narratives, students will develop a nuanced view of the intersections between tradition, remembrance, and modernity in Chinese societies and beyond.

Furthermore, Taipei has transformed into a center for creative industries, technological advancements, academic excellence, and the preservation of history, enhancing its cultural fabric.
