QWhat is the difference between the Chinese Arts and Culture (CAC) stream and Issues in Contemporary China (ICC) stream?
A

To better suit students’ interests and provide a more clearly defined learning focus, our programme currently has two streams: (1) the Chinese Arts and Culture Stream focusing mainly on film, literature and art history; and (2) the Issues in Contemporary China Stream focusing on politics, society and international relations. Applicants will choose a stream during the admissions process. Students in one stream can still take courses in the other stream as electives.

QWhich languages are courses taught in? Is there any Chinese language proficiency requirement for admission?
A

All courses will be taught and examined in English; no knowledge of Chinese is required for admission.

QI am a non-Chinese speaker: will Chinese Language courses be provided?
A

Non-Chinese speaking students who are interested in learning Chinese may choose to take up to one elective course* at the Yale-China Language Centre. For more information on these courses, please click here.

QDo I need to attend an interview?
A

Interviews are by invitation only and take place on Zoom. Applicants will be invited to an interview after passing the initial evaluation of application materials. Please be patient: it might take several weeks before you receive an interview invitation.

QAm I allowed to update my English test score result after my first submission?
A

Yes. Please contact the Programme Office at macs@cuhk.edu.hk. Admission priority will be given to applicants who demonstrate good English skills.

QWhen will I receive the notification of my application result?
A

Applicants may log into the Online Application System to check their application results. Successful applicants are required to settle the deposit fee upon confirmation of offer. Successful applicants will be notified by June, applicants may consider their applications unsuccessful if they do not hear from us thereafter.

QIs accommodation provided by the University?
A

All taught postgraduate students at CUHK are required to arrange their own accommodation. The monthly rent for off-campus single rooms ranges from about HK$4,500 to HK$6,000, and the monthly rent for flats that can be shared among two to three roommates ranges from about HK$8,000 to HK$11,000, depending on the size, quality, and location of the unit. Non-local students may refer to Incoming Students Section website to obtain more useful housing information.
