On August 4, 2025, we had the pleasure of hosting Prof. Jessica Tsui-yan Li from York University for our inaugural China studies seminar of the 2025-26 academic year. Her lecture, “Eileen Chang: The Performativity of Self-Translation,” offered profound insights into Chang’s self-translation.

The seminar, moderated by our Centre Director, Prof. Carole Hoyan, drew an esteemed audience of professors, scholars, and students from CU and beyond. Their engaging discussions greatly enriched the event.

Following the seminar, Prof. Li joined us for a visit to the Yale-China Chinese Language Academy and the Centre for China Studies, where she explored our collections and met our faculty members to learn more about our Centre.

Thank you to all participants for your continued support of CCS. We look forward to seeing you at our upcoming events!
