Q1. How do I register for courses?
A

Please refer to detailed instructions from the Graduate School website. If you encounter any error/warning message when trying to enrol in courses in CUSIS, please refer to “Meaning of Error/Warning Messages” for detailed explanations.

Q2. Can I change my course selection after the course registration period in August?
A

Yes, students can change their course selection during the add/drop period of the respective term. Please refer here for the term’s add/drop period.

Q3. How many courses should I enrol in?
A

Please refer to the study scheme for the graduation requirements. Students are required to complete 24 units (8 courses) for graduation. We strongly advise that you should not enrol in more courses than the number required. Kindly note that each course has a limited quota, other students will not be able to register or add/drop enough courses if you occupy unnecessary seats.

Q4. What should I do if I want to enrol in a closed (quota is full) course?
A

Closed (quota is full) courses will open to students on the waitlist during each term’s add/drop period. Students wishing to enrol in a closed (quota is full) course should submit a request via CUSIS to join the waitlist. Course enrolment will be handled via CUSIS on a first-come-first-served basis if the course quota is released or adjusted.

Q5. How can I register for CHES5201/CHES5202?
A

Enrolment is not available via CUSIS. Enrolment in CHES5201/CHES5202 is subject to screening and your performance in Term 1. Please refer to the course outline for details.

Q6. How to enrol in a course offered by another department/programme at CUHK?
A

Enrolment in Chinese studies-related courses offered by other Programmes/Departments is subject to approval by the Programme Director and consent of the Programmes/Departments responsible. Students interested in non-CHES courses cannot enrol in the course directly via CUSIS. They should ensure the lecturer of that course agrees with their participation and then submit a CS-1 application form to the MA in Chinese Studies Programme Office during the first week of each Term.

Q7. Can I take language courses as part of my MA programme?
A

Students will not be approved to enrol in credit-bearing non-CHES language courses. Students interested in enroling in non-credit-bearing language courses can refer to the Yale-China Chinese Language Academy for details.

Q8. Questions regarding course enrolment in CUSIS
A

The CUSIS function “Enrol by My Requirements” or “Manage Course” may confuse students because it may show that course enrolment records do not fulfil graduation requirements even if students have already enrolled in one required course and seven elective courses. Students should find there is a note: “This is a system-generated report and is for reference only.” The CUSIS system is not able to recognize the stream specification of individual courses, therefore the system generated message could not reflect the real case. What students need to do is to ensure that they have followed our study scheme and courses in order to select courses.

Q9. When is the deadline of the tuition fee payment?
A

The annual tuition fees are payable in two equal instalments. The tuition fee should be settled by the end of September and the end of January for Term 1 and Term 2, respectively. The Finance Office will notify students two weeks before the payment due date. The deposit paid upon acceptance of the admission offer will be offset against the first instalment of the tuition fee. Please refer here for payment methods.

Q10. When will my student status expire?
A

Our programme is a one-year full-time programme. The expected graduation date of the 2024/25 cohort is 31 July 2025. Please click here for details from the Graduate School.

Q11. What should I do if I need an official document from the University?
