After completing my MPhil research, which explored Hong Kong-China connections in early postsocialist China through the lens of cross-media martial arts culture, my current doctoral project focuses on cinematic collaborations between China, Hong Kong, and Taiwan in the 1980s and 1990s. It examines how different film genres negotiated shifting geopolitical dynamics in East Asia during the transitional period of the late Cold War and early post-Cold War era. More broadly, my research interests include Chinese-language cinemas, cinema culture, and modern Chinese history, literature, and culture.
