Hong Kong PhD Fellowship Scheme (HKPFS)
|
The Hong Kong PhD Fellowship Scheme (HKPFS), established by the Research Grants Council (RGC) of Hong Kong, aims to attract the best and brightest students from across the globe to pursue their PhD studies in Hong Kong universities. It provides an annual stipend of HK$344,400 and a conference and research-related travel allowance of HK$14,400 per year. It also provides tuition and first-year hostel fee waivers, a lodging award and guaranteed on-campus accommodation, subject to the applicable conditions. Available for both local and international applicants. CUHK Vice-Chancellor PhD Scholarship Scheme |
PhD candidates applying to CUHK’s full-time PhD programmes through the Online Application System by the specified deadlines are automatically considered for this scholarship. No separate application is required. The scheme provides an award of HK$80,000 (HK$40,000 in Year 1 and HK$20,000 in each of Years 2 and 3), subject to satisfactory academic progress, annual studentships of HK$229,200 and a total travel allowance of HK$30,000 during the normative study period. |

Postgraduate Studentships (MPhil and PhD) |
Postgraduate Studentships (PGS) are available to qualified full-time research postgraduate students and are announced with admission offers. For reference, the annual studentship for 2026–27 is HK$229,200, payable during the normative study period. The 2027–28 rate is subject to the Graduate School’s announcement. |

Tuition Waiver Scheme for Local Research Postgraduate Students |
Starting from the 2018-19 academic year, the Government grants a tuition waiver to all current and newly admitted local full-time research postgraduate (RPg) students enrolled in UGC-funded RPg programmes for their entire normative period of study. |
