Minor Programme in China Studies

This Minor Programme is designed for students across all disciplines who want to deepen their understanding of Greater China through multi-disciplinary learning and direct engagement. Taught primarily in English to prepare students for effective communication in international arenas, the curriculum offers an integrated exploration of Chinese history, culture, languages, and contemporary society, including the interconnected realms of the economy, governance, and business.

The curriculum design features project-based learning where international and native-speaker students learn collaboratively. The Programme also responds to the growing global importance of China by offering a diverse, interdisciplinary learning environment that brings together students from different departments. Exposure to a wide range of disciplinary perspectives strengthens students’ cross-cultural competencies and analytical versatility, enabling them to better understand Greater China through a dedicated China Studies lens while appreciating the distinctive methods and paradigms of their own major disciplines.

Programme Highlights

  • Interdisciplinary approach – Examine China through a rich combination of cultural, sociological, economical, political, and historical lenses
  • Global perspective – Understand China’s role and influence in a multifaceted way
  • Interactive learning – Engage directly in student-centred discussions, collaborative projects, and research
  • Flexible study options – Complement and add value to a wide range of major disciplines
