Dr. Pierre Miège is Adjunct Associate Professor at the Center for China Studies, The Chinese University of Hong Kong. A sociologist specializing in urban China, his research examines the transformation of social norms and the emergence of individualization in a rapidly changing society. His work spans two major areas: the historical role of work units (danwei) in shaping state-society relations, and public health, particularly HIV prevention and high-risk behavior among marginalized communities.
Dr. Miège holds a PhD in Sociology from the École des Hautes Études en Sciences Sociales (EHESS, Paris). From 2007 to 2019, he was Associate Professor at Beijing Normal University, where he taught urban sociology and public health. Between 2019 and 2023, he served as Director of the French Centre for Research on Contemporary China (CEFC) in Hong Kong and as Director of Publication for the SSCI journal China Perspectives. His research has been published in leading journals such as PLOS ONE, The Lancet, Archives of Sexual Behavior, and Culture, Health and Sexuality.
